The United Kingdom is set to progress with employing the full worth of immobilized Russia's assets to support the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this unified step would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to come to the table.

They clarified that the decision would be carried out in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom sanctions have blocked more than £25bn of Russian resources since Russia launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, until now, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had only been taken from earnings and returns earned on them.

Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign funds to halt hostilities.

He stated that further measures in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This declaration is subsequent to European representatives convened in Copenhagen previously to discuss using seized Russia's holdings for a 140-billion-euro loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, American leader Donald Trump urged international partners to confiscate or employ seized Russian assets, based on news outlets.

The worth of frozen Russia's assets in the EU is assessed to be approximately €211bn.

Leader Zelensky calls on the United Kingdom's Sir Keir Starmer to join the weapons procurement programme

Moscow launched widespread aerial attacks all over the Ukrainian territory on that day, causing power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.

Several persons were killed and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the strike, the Ukrainian government stated.

In a update on an online platform following the attack, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault aimed at civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What is required is not empty words but concrete steps - from the US, EU, and the Group of Seven - in providing defense mechanisms and applying sanctions," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure weakens Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky told the press he would urge Sir Keir to participate in the PURL scheme, under which alliance members buy weapons from the United States to donate to Ukraine.

While praising the United Kingdom's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he said it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the program, as well as enforce additional restrictions on Russia.
