The older brother of the Seaside town killer revealed his family "were unable to handle" of their offspring and he worried his family member would fatally harm a individual of their family, a public inquiry has heard.

Axel Rudakubana, a teenager, murdered three youngsters at a pop music-inspired dance workshop on that date.

The Southport Inquiry, held at a civic building, learned the sibling the older brother told a close contact there was a possibility of his sibling "doing something deadly."

The hearing was told the brother wrote to his friend over the Discord messaging app: "Arguments are scary because of the danger of someone dying."

Dion said his brother reminded him of the psychopathic killer in the film the thriller.

Rising Hostility

Proceedings heard the brother was identified with a health issue at the early teens which resulted in him using a wheelchair and his family providing increased care.

Questioned by the lawyer, counsel to the inquiry, if that changed his relationship he said: "Strain developed that came about."

Dion concurred his sibling appeared to resent this shift.

He revealed to the investigation that after the family moved from Cardiff to the seaside town his relative's behavior declined and he would have "violent outbursts."

The inquiry learned Dion became "progressively concerned" of his relative, who would strike him often.

He testified: "I was forced to be wary if I attempted to talk to him because each conflict could escalate into an confrontation."

'Genuine concerns'

He revealed his brother became much more aggressive after he was removed from Range High School in that region, in October 2019.

The sibling went to college in the following period and the two had diminishing contact "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."

Proceedings was informed of a communication Dion sent to a friend on the platform in which he said his sibling was irritated with him talking during nighttime because of the limited soundproofing in their house.

He further revealed to his associate there was a risk of "his committing an act deadly."

He said: "The fights are scary because of the risk of a fatality."

The counsel questioned: "You held real worries that your sibling would kill a individual of your family?"

Dion replied: "In case matters intensified to that point."

The lawyer questioned how his parents reacted to the perpetrator's aggression.

"It was pointless to attempt to discipline him," he testified. "Also, there was a serious threat in proceeding that way.

"We said there was a general risk to life in general conversation, if you seek to address him... it wouldn't be responded to well."

When the lawyer inquired if his mother and father had been unable to handle of his brother, the brother acknowledged.

Questioned regarding his relative reminding him of a persona from the movie the thriller, the brother explained: "I've been told that figure's intended as a dangerous individual and that's why I chose that description there."

He revealed the last interaction he had with his brother was in the summer of 2023.

He confirmed that their mother and father told the perpetrator to say goodbye to him as he was leaving to see his friends and his sibling tossed a container at him but the exit was secured before it hit.
