Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
