Former Bengals and University of Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Ranch Accident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining serious burns in an incident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
Details of the Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it ignited. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a large area of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who transported him to a local hospital. Subsequently, he was airlifted to a hospital in Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and the prevention of infections and complications on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Severity of the Burns
It has been reported that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. His brother noted that the primary risk at this stage is infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received All-American honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he had stints with multiple NFL teams over his professional career. His retirement came in 2014.
