The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This comes after a court battle that questioned her right to occupy the role.

Acceptance of Resignation

The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, announced the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for her to effectively run her office.

"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "The effort will now extend throughout America."

Court Ruling

Habba's exit was triggered by a US appeals court determined that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This judgment is could influence many prosecutions in the Garden State.

The court said that a interim role that skirted confirmation by the US Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.

Ongoing Legal Battle

It was also stated that the former prosecutor will continue working within the DOJ as a high-level advisor. She will challenge the decision of the disqualification, aiming for a overturned decision.

On a social media platform, the Attorney General wrote that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the President's choice of prosecutors responsible for executing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."
